Our
Story

Meltdown Candles actually began 18 years ago, when I started making custom candles in my spare room. I was fortunate enough to be a part of large shopping events in Boston, Raleigh, and a Central Park event for Allure magazine. So, I was just starting out with the business and then life, as it often does, threw me a giant curve ball. I went through a divorce, got engaged and married again, AND got pregnant all in a very short amount of time! No judgement unless you want a deep dive into your backstory!!
Anyway, I had a hard pregnancy and couldn't work as much as I wanted to. So, I pushed pause on it and raised my daughter. And it was the best decision I have ever made! Being with her every day of the past 17 years has been the greatest gift I could have ever been given. Now she's old enough to not only see what I do; she is pretty much an equal partner with me. She's the ingredient I was missing before to make this business the best it can be.
We hand make each and every candle using the cleanest ingredients possible. I have allergy issues and in the past certain candles have given me headaches or even sneezes when I burned them. Then I switched to our custom soy and palm wax blend and began using safe phthalate-free fragrances. Voila! No more allergy issues.
The names of our candles are expressive of our sense of humor. We do argue over which one of us is funnier, so the names represent us both, either in name or description.
So, enjoy and please know that if any of the names offend you.... we don't need to hear about it!
Otherwise feel free to contact us!

What sizes do you offer? We currently offer a tall 21 oz candle, and a small 12.25 oz candle. If you have seen other sizes at an event we have done, those are usually just for special themes. However, if you saw something and would like to order it, please leave us a message. We are pretty nice!

What are your candles made of?We use a soy and palm wax blend. I have allergy issues and I used to get headaches and other reactions to some types of candles. When I switched to the soy, no more issues. We also use phthalate-free fragrances.

What is the best way to burn a container candle?Because we think everything in life is better with humor, we think in terms of the steps for a d*ck in a box courtesy of SNL. One Snip way down on your wick Two Put your fire on that wick Three Step away from that wick And that's the way you do it For those who don't know that reference (you REALLY need to look that up!), or for those who need further instructions, we shall explain. To begin, you really need to trim the wick down. Most candlemakers leave a longer wick just because it looks better. It's definitely not for burning though. You need to cut it down to around a 1/4 inch. Next light it up. It is usually recommended that candles do not burn for longer than four hours and cool for at least two hours before relighting. This should be obvious, but we live in the world that we do so, please don't place anything into the candle or the flame. Just step back and smell the aroma. Upon relighting, always trim the wick down again to around the 1/4 inch mark. We know you won't do it every time, hell we don't, but it's the best way to allow it to burn evenly. Now the obvious- Never place an open flame near something flammable Never place the candle on an uneven surface Never move a lit candle around Never leave a burning candle unattended Never place candles within the reach of children or pets Never use water to extinguish a candle Never touch the candle or container until it has cooled Never use a knife or sharp object to remove wax from the sides of a glass container. It can crack or weaken the glass. Side note- If you use candles for your sexy time, please for the love of all that is holy, be careful! Nobody likes a blistered weenie!

Can we pay for you to hang out with us?Yes but we are VERY expensive! Think Robert Redford type cash in Indecent Proposal. (If you're too young to remember that film, first suck it, and second look it up!!)

What movie changes its plot when you change one letter in the title? That's easy- The Dark Knight. You change the A to an O and bam! You go from a handsome billionaire dressing up like a super studly Bat creature and fighting crime, to a handsome millionaire (either way they need cash) dressing up like a super studly nerd to help finish all video game levels people get stuck on. He also solves the unsolvable math problems and shows you how to make the perfect spreadsheet. Long live The Dork Knight!
